Curlewis Winery
Curlewis was purchased by Leesa Freyer and Stefano Marasco in 2011 from Rainer and Wendy Breit. The initial plan was for Rainer to consult for two years but he never left and a great friendship evolved. The original Pinot Noir vines were planted in 1985 to the MV6 clone with later plantings in 2005 of the Pommard clone. The vineyard benefits from the cool maritime climate for late ripening and Stefano and Rainer are always striving to make better wines.

About the Winemaker
Since Rainer Breit established and started making wine at Curlewis Winery, there has been one goal – to make better wine. Rainer set his sights on a French (Burgundian) style Pinot Noir – a wine that a Grand Cru drinker would enjoy, at a more affordable price. Curlewis Winery has enjoyed success with all of its Pinot Noir Releases. As current owners of Curlewis Winery, winemaker Stefano Marasco and Leesa Freyer continue to work with Rainer to make Curlewis wine better using an artisan approach to handmade winemaking which starts with pruning and ends at bottling.
The wine
We specialise in Burgundian-style Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays and Rhone-style Syrah (Shiraz). The winemaking specifics can vary from year to year to adjust to the variations in vintage. Our objective is to maintain continuity of style in preference to reflecting vintage variations.
